I love these recipes, and the wonderful story of country living. It reminds me of my own child hood. And the way we lived, gardening, canning, and putting up staples for winter. And i also remember some terrible winters, when it was so much snow, you couldn't see the road from the house. '' Did i say good memories??????

Just love your "Girlfriends Day". One of my best friends from California. The best friend I have sent it to me today in my email. I moved from CA Sept 07 to buy a house. Could not afford one in CA. Love it here. Nice and quiet. Real seasons, fall, spring, summer, and winter with lots of rain not much snow. Birds, everywhere all year long. I am stressed less here. I wish my friend would move here with her family. Maybe she would be less stressed too.

Non Sequitur
is published in my paper. Knowing the comic, I remember that when the little American girl was being reminded of the Holocaust, the artist was thinking of Abu Ghraib , Guantanamo, the torture memos, extraordinary rendition, &c. Things that our pain, confusion & fear in response to 9/11 kept Americans silent about our government's abuses, as Germans were silent when their government shipped Jews away.
No doubt, there are terrorists in many countries, and terrorists have many 'reasons' - think Oklahoma City, the Klu Klux Klan, Waco, the Unabomber. When we point our finger at another, we have 3 pointing back at ourselves.
This is a critical time in our country, we all need to bring our best to our public places, and avoid sowing fear and hate. We will reap what we sow.
